Pets are popular among us as they provide companionship, joy, unconditional love, a sense of safety and often a service to their owner. These are some of the popular reasons when people thought of getting a pet. Animals are fun to be with every day and they make us feel good, even in your darkest day.

Your pet-owning experience will be most enjoyable if you take time to consider which animal best suits your family. Not every family will want a dog and not all family wants a cat either. You can identify which pet will suit your lifestyle by answering some easy questions and gathering information and advice. The process will not take long and it will be educational and fun especially for children. The process will foster closer bond among the family members as everyone participate in gathering the information before deciding on their pets.

The best way to select your pet is through recommendations from the veterinarians. Do remember that a pet will become your daily responsibility; therefore, it is advisable for you to make an informed pet selection. Don't let the playful antics of the first puppy, kitten or bird you see or the latest status-symbol pet charm you into accepting a responsibility for which you and your family are not prepared. We never recommend pets as a gift or selecting your pets based on impulse as the passion will not stay long with you and it will lead to pets’ negligence and resulting in death of the pets. 

Selecting a pet should be a family project with everyone's needs, concerns, fears and medical history (including allergies) being considered. Family members should decide together what kind of animal they want, the amount of time they anticipate spending with it, and the amount of responsibility each person is willing to assume. We need to be realistic when deciding on this and usually promises from some family members especially children may not be fulfilled.
